Stoke complete Given deal

The Republic of Ireland international has joined the Potters on a two-year contract, becoming the club's second signing of the day after the arrival of Marco van Ginkel
Stoke City have signed Shay Given in a two-year deal following his release from Aston Villa

The Republic of Ireland international passed a medical at the Britannia Stadium on Friday and has now put pen to paper on his deal at the Potters.

Given's move to the club means it is the second time he has worked with Mark Hughes, having played under the former Manchester United striker at Manchester City, and the 51-year-old has expressed his delight at securing the stopper.

"I know Shay particularly well from our time together at Manchester City and I'm really looking forward to working with him again," he told Stoke's official website.

"He will not only be a great asset on the pitch as an outstanding goalkeeper but he's also a fantastic character to have in the dressing room and around the Club – a true professional."
